Your First Lesson…Critical Aspect # 1 – Your Mindset
Welcome to your first lesson.
We begin by starting on the topic of mindset. You may already have some experience in learning about mindset, or you may have little knowledge on this topic. One thing I’ve learned about mindset in my years of studying it, is that there is always a new take away…even if it’s the same information I read or learned in the past. The reason being, is that as we continue to grow and develop as humans, and as our lives change, we apply words, thoughts and concepts differently. Have you ever read a book more than once, and each time you read it you came away with something new? They were the same words, but they meant something different to you each time.
Whether you consider yourself to be an expert in the area of mindset, or if you are just a beginner, I encourage you to sit back, relax, and see what new take on mindset you will receive by reading on.
As you absorb this information, you will begin to understand that nothing you do in business will make any difference if you don’t grasp the importance of mindset and apply it to your business. It doesn’t matter how much money, time, or effort you expend toward your business…if you don’t bring the power of mindset to your business, you’re going to struggle. When you embrace this powerful concept and apply it to your business, it will allow you to supersede the talent and skills that you already have. Before anything else, mindset needs to come first, which is why we’re beginning with this topic.
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” (Wayne Dyer)
Lou Holtz (retired American football coach, and active sportscaster, author, and motivational speaker) once said, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it.” You will never meet or know a successful person who would disagree with this statement. A winning mindset is one of positive confidence. Can you picture any successful people who act as victims or look depressed? Probably not, because they understand that success is a direct result of their attitude.
Attitude is a decision you have control over. You have a choice in how you respond to any situation or circumstance. When you truly embrace this truth, it’s incredibly empowering because you will no longer be a victim of a situation, but in complete control of it. You get to decide if a circumstance will frustrate you, depress you, or hold you back – or not.
“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.” (Thomas Jefferson)
In essence, if you decide you can do something, you can. And if you decide you can’t, well… then you can’t. Either way, the attitude becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that you control. If you don’t change your mindset, your life will be like it is right now…forever. Picture your life 5 years from now. Do you like what you see? If not, I have good news for you! You have the power to change it.
So How Do You Shift Your Mindset to Become Successful in Both Life and Business?
You are probably thinking you need to drown yourself in personal development e-books, CD’s, DVD’s, books, articles and such…right?
Yes and no.
It’s not just about learning it. Anyone can “learn” something, but it’s how you absorb and implement the information you learn that is important. If you don’t believe me, just think back to some of the things you learned in grade school. I can remember a period where all I wanted to do was learn the information just enough to pass the test. Had I been tested again a week later, I’m not so sure I would have passed!
The key is to implementing what you have learned as you are learning it. Let me give you an example. Let’s say that you tend to use the word, “need” fairly often. “I NEED to make more money. I NEED a vacation. I NEED to get clear on my business goals and tasks.” What if you simply swapped out the word, “NEED” for “DESERVE”? Let’s try it:
“I DESERVE to make more money. I DESERVE a vacation. I DESERVE to get clear on my business goals and tasks.” How did that feel? When we were saying, “NEED”, it had a desperate connotation to it, didn’t it?
What am I suggesting here? STRETCH yourself. Learn it, do it, and then you can teach it by leading by example. When you do this, you will be recognized as a mentor, as an expert, as someone who others desire to follow and want to do business with! Am I saying it’s easy, NO. In fact, at times it may be a bit scary. But that’s when it’s even more important to do it…because that’s when you grow.
“Change and growth take place when a person has risked himself and dares to become involved with experimenting with his own life.” (Herbert Otto)
If you find this process to be easy, be careful, it may be because you are NOT growing. Where there is no growth, there is no reward. As you learn, implement what you learn, and overcome your obstacles along the way, you will begin to change. Your mind will change. The way you look at things will be different. You will have more perspective. You will accomplish new goals, and with that, you will grow more and more. Soon you’ll find others want to hear from you, be around you, and learn from you.
And what will this mean for your business? You will begin attracting more quality people into your business and personal life, including other leaders who share a similar mindset. This will open up new opportunities to you, including masterminding with those in the top of your industry, which means even more growth for you!
Suddenly your life and business will be taking on a new and exciting form, something that you only imagined in your dreams, and you can’t help but wonder why you ever before thought it was so hard to achieve.
It all starts here with mindset. Rise to the opportunity to change your mindset and be the person that everyone is searching for.
Before you receive and move forward with tomorrow’s lesson, you deserve to take some time now to consider your commitment to yourself with this decision. It’s the most important part before continuing with this Home Business Exposed Boot Camp Series.
